The Wolfmen

According to RADIO 1’s BOBBY FRICTION, “The Wolfmen have got pedigree, a full-on pedigree. I’ve been playing them on Radio 1, but you know what? F*** pedigree, they’re an amazing band and they’re going to take you somewhere else musically…”

MARCO PIRRONI and CHRIS CONSTANTINOU formed THE WOLFMEN in 2005. MARCO (guitars) enjoyed extraordinary success with ADAM & THE ANTS and later worked with SINÉAD O’CONNOR. CHRIS (bass, lead vocals) also performed with ADAM & THE ANTS, previously led JACKIEONASSID and has also worked with ANNABELLA LWIN (BOW-WOW-WOW) and SINÉAD O’CONNOR.

The Wolfmen’s first projects were soundtracks for BRAVO TV’s acclaimed I PREDICT A RIOT, and for two hitherto-silent early 1900s fetish films for the ICA/MoMI’s inaugural FASHION IN FILM Festival.

DAMAGED GOODS then released the early Wolfmen records – a mixture of limited edition EPs and vinyl singles, all of which sold straight out, and won support from JONATHAN ROSS (BBC Radio 2), MARK LAMARR (BBC Radio 2) and PHIL JUPITUS (BBC 6Music). The BBC’s music website asked “Is (Marco & Chris’) music as necessary in 2006 as it was nearly 30 years ago? In a word, yes. In more words, too f***ing right it is.”

Alongside their own work, the band is known for some surprising collaborations with artists ranging from LOU REED to DALER MEHNDI, the biggest selling Indian artist in music history. They’ve also covered SCREAMING JAY HAWKINS’ “I Put A Spell On You” with PRIMAL SCREAM for an ALEXANDER MCQUEEN catwalk show and co-written a few tracks on SINÉAD O’CONNOR’s new album, “How About I Be Me (And You Be You?)”.

Their debut album, “MODERNITY KILLED EVERY NIGHT” was mixed by ALAN MOULDER (The Killers, U2, Arctic Monkeys, Smashing Pumpkins) and was released in August 2008. It was described by UNCUT as “Dense stuff… Extraordinarily overstated… an unholy mix…” and by MOJO as “Steeped in the space-age glam boogie of Bowie and T Rex with a bit of Iggy-in-Berlin thrown in… infernally catchy…” Lead track “Cecilie” was A-listed on NME Radio for seven weeks in a row.

The Wolfmen’s second album, ‘MARRIED TO THE EIFFEL TOWER” was released July 2011, and was produced by COURTNEY-TALOR-TAYLOR (frontman/songwriter with The Dandy Warhols) and JACOB PORTRAIT (Queens Of The Stone Age, Foo Fighters). The first results of The Wolfmen’s second album sessions were previewed, with a limited edition single release of “Jackie, is it my Birthday?”, a duet with Sinéad O’Connor, winning massive radio support with spins from the likes of DERMOT O’LEARY (BBC Radio 2), CHRIS HAWKINS (BBC 6Music), DON LETTS, SARAH KERR (BBC 6Music), LAUREN LAVERNE, GARY CROWLEY and DAVID QUANTICK.

“Jackie, is it my Birthday?” becomes an “alt.Christmas anthem”, as POPJUSTICE calls it. A “Beautiful… A lovely Poguesian waltz tempo and a heartbreaking vocal from Sinéad…”. ROLLING STONE devotes half a page to the single, declaring it “A spunky mix… Jackie breezes through with it’s uplifting swirl. Great production and a sweeping string set sustained through the track, the song’s rock rage is wrapped in an ethereal halo.”
